The Russian Federation has ratified the new Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Community (EAWU). The new Customs Code is expected to enter into force as planned on 1 January 2018. Companies doing business in Russia should inform themselves about the new legal situation, in particular about the simplifications.
New EAWU Customs Code from 2018
In addition to Russia, Belarus has already ratified the new customs code. As soon as the Code has also gone through the national ratification procedures in Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, the new Customs Code can enter into force as planned on 1 January 2018. The Eurasian Economic Commission (similar to the European Commission) expects Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan to complete the ratification process in time.
We have already reported that EAWU’s new Customs Code brings with it numerous simplifications that will make customs clearance faster and more calculable. Companies doing business in Russia or having business relations with other EAWU member states should inform themselves about the new customs law now at the latest.
