The USA has imposed new duties on Chinese products. The US government today published a list of Chinese imports worth around 200 billion US dollars that will be subject to additional tariffs. In accordance with President Trump’s instructions, the additional fares will apply from 24 September 2018 and will initially be 10 per cent. From 1 January 2019, the level of additional tariffs will increase to 25 percent.

The list contains 5,745 complete or partial code numbers (originally planned were 6,031 tariff numbers) on a list of Chinese imports announced on 10 July 2018. The products removed from the proposed list include certain consumer electronics products such as smart watches and Bluetooth devices, certain chemicals for industrial products, textiles and agriculture, certain health and safety products such as bicycle helmets and child safety furniture such as car seats and playpens.

In another case, in June and August, US Trade Representatives published two lists of Chinese imports with a total annual trade value of around 50 billion US dollars, with the aim of eliminating China’s harmful acts, policies and practices.
