Tariff suspensions and tariff quotas 2016

As every year, the European Union (EU) has adopted the regulations on Tariff suspensions and quotas updated. The list of current tariff suspensions can be found in Regulation (EU) No 2015/2449 and the current tariff quotas in Regulation (EU) No 2015/2448.

What do tariff suspensions and tariff quotas mean?

Suspension means that the rate of duty to be collected by the third country is at least reduced for all goods to be imported. In most cases, the rate of duty in third countries is even 0%. Tariff quotas differ from tariff suspensions only in that they are granted only for a certain total quantity of goods imported into the EU (quantitative restriction).

Tariff suspensions and tariff quotas are mostly granted for agricultural and industrial products produced in the EU to a limited extent. The aim is to improve the competitiveness of the European processing industry. Companies importing raw materials or components should therefore pay particular attention to this topic.
